On-the-tools maths, solved

The Engineering Toolkit

The room-by-room heat-loss surveyor and the on-site calculators below are live today, with the maths run on our servers and checked against the standards. Each one is a working aid that supports — never replaces — your own checks against the standards (BS 6891, BS 5440 and the rest) and your Gas Safe competence.

Gas rate & heat input

Burner heat input from a timed meter reading: metric or imperial, gross or net.

BS 6891 pipe sizing

Size gas runs with pressure-drop limits so the appliance gets its working pressure.

Combustion air ventilation

Free-air vent sizing for the appliance and the room it sits in.

Expansion vessel & DHW cylinder

Right-size the vessel for the system volume and the cylinder for the household.

Chemical dosing

Inhibitor or cleaner dose by the system volume. (IGEM/UP/1 purge volumes are coming soon.)

Room-by-room heat-loss surveyor

Walk the property, capture each room, and build a heat-loss survey for sizing and quotes.

The heat-pump edge

Win the Heat-Pump Job

From the first quote to the grant paperwork — know the property, check the grant, and land on the right portal with your details ready.

EPC lookup & auto-prefill

Pull the property’s official EPC — band, floor area, fabric — straight from the government register into your heat-loss survey and grant check. Where a registered EPC exists, you know the property before you knock.

Professional

Boiler Upgrade Scheme checker

An indicative BUS check with the current grant amounts — £7,500 air- and ground-source, £2,500 air-to-air, £5,000 biomass. Clearly indicative: Ofgem decides, and your MCS-certified installer makes the claim.

Professional

Submission Assistant

When the job’s ready to register, jump to the right official portal — BUS, MCS, Gas Safe or Building Control — with the steps, deadlines and your job details laid out ready to copy across. You submit; nothing is sent for you.

AI, privacy controlled

A second pair of hands, not a gimmick

Ask Mate anything about your own jobs, quotes and customers. It can only read, never change. We never keep your questions, and nothing is ever posted anywhere without you pressing the button.

  • Ask Mate. Ask Mate about your jobs, invoices and customers. It can show links to the records you are allowed to open. It cannot change your records. Check its answer before acting. Solo plan and up.
  • Point your camera at it. A business card, your van, a page of your paper diary — we read the details off the photo and type them in for you.
  • Review-first social drafts. Finish a job and we draft a tidy before/after post for you to check and approve — never auto-posted without you.
  • Your questions stay private. We never store what you ask or what Mate answers. The fine print lives on our privacy page, in plain English.

How We Compare

For the founding cohort, a one- or two-engineer firm gets full Standard for £29/month. The normal £49 firm-level price still includes five engineers, then a low per-engineer rate after that.

Monthly software cost by team size, comparing PipeworkHQ with Tradify, Powered Now, Commusoft, Joblogic and Payaca. Eligible one- and two-engineer founding firms pay £29 for monthly Standard while the normal Standard list price is £49 with five engineers included. Professional is £129; “Not offered” means the product does not offer that scenario.

Five engineers on one flat price

We charge per firm, not per user. Your core five are included on one flat price. At six engineers Standard is £61, while the currently published Tradify, Powered Now and Joblogic examples are £192–£270 depending on plan. Beyond five, each extra engineer is £12 on Standard or £30 on Professional.

Heat-pump design included

Indicative heat-loss and system planning is built into Professional at £129. Payaca, lists its Growth plan at £999 a month billed annually (£1,199 month-to-month) plus a £1,500 one-off onboarding fee; a £299/month first-year plan exists for newly incorporated MCS firms (payaca.com pricing, checked 2026-09-03).

Compliance breadth + read-only AI
